With a few tips, your jewelry can stay pretty and be enjoyed for years to come!
Silver plated and gold plated metals will retain their shine if treated with care, and kept dry. Polish with a soft cloth, or jewelry cloth.
Sterling silver can be cleaned with silver polish, keeping the chemical away from any gemstones. A jewelry polishing cloth also works well on sterling.
Argentium silver should only be cleaned with a specially treated cloth for Argentium.
Gold can be cleaned simply and easily with dish soap and water, unless gemstones are glued into place. Always dry thoroughly with a soft cloth, and place upside down to drain excess water from around the settings. Plain bands can be soaked in dish soap/water for 15 minutes, rinsed and dried with a soft cloth. Toothpaste and a soft toothbrush work well also, staying away from gemstones.
Copper tarnish can be removed by several methods. Vinegar and salt, lemon, lemon and salt, or ketchup. Rinse clean, polish with a soft dry cloth, and as always, keep away from gemstones.
Brass is easily cleaned by several methods, much like copper. Commercial cleaners, water, lemon juice and salt, ketchup, or Worcestershire. Rinse and dry thoroughly, and keep those gemstones safe!
